Getting a shopper to buy one item is good. Convincing them that two or three sounds even better? eBay now has another tool for that.
As part of its September Seller News, eBay introduced bundle discounts, a new way for sellers to offer percentage discounts when shoppers purchase multiple items in the same order. Sellers can create different discount tiers, decide which listings participate, and even let shoppers mix and match eligible products.
With holiday shopping getting closer, the timing makes plenty of sense. If sellers can turn a one-item order into a two- or three-item order, they can make every checkout work a little harder.
How eBay Bundle Discounts Work
The idea behind eBay bundle discounts is pretty straightforward. Sellers choose a percentage discount based on how many eligible items a customer purchases. For example, a seller could offer one discount for buying two items, a larger discount for three, and another for four or more.
The items do not necessarily have to be identical. Sellers can offer discounts for multiple quantities of the same product or allow shoppers to mix and match different eligible listings. Sellers also control which products participate, so that expensive item with a razor-thin margin does not have to join the party.
Once bundle discounts are enabled, shoppers can see the offer while browsing eligible listings, as well as on the seller’s store or profile. The savings are calculated automatically and displayed before the buyer pays.
That means the seller gets to set the rules, while eBay handles the math. Not a bad division of labor.
Sellers Have Control Over the Offer
Bundle discounts are optional, so sellers have to opt in before they begin appearing on listings. Once enabled, eligible listings are included by default, including new eligible listings created later. Sellers can exclude individual products or adjust their discount settings whenever they want.
That flexibility matters because not every SKU has the same margin. A 15% discount might make perfect sense on one product and make another product considerably less exciting once the accounting department gets involved.
Sellers can also change their tiers as they learn what works. That opens the door to testing whether a small discount on two items drives enough additional purchases to justify the lower margin, or whether shoppers need a bigger incentive before they start adding more to the cart.
What Happens With Other eBay Promotions?
This is where sellers running several promotions will want to pay attention.
Bundle discounts can work alongside eBay sitewide promotions and sale events, but they cannot be stacked with seller coupons, order discounts, volume pricing, or other seller promotional codes. If an item qualifies for more than one seller discount, eBay says the buyer receives whichever eligible offer gives them the better deal.
Shipping is also separate from the bundle discount. The discount applies to the price of the eligible items, while shipping and handling continue to follow the shipping settings on the seller’s listings. Sellers can separately offer free shipping or combined shipping discounts if that makes sense for their business.
In other words, sellers still need to do a little margin math before turning every promotion knob all the way up.
Returns Get a Little Interesting
Of course, eventually someone is going to return one item from a bundle. eBay has thought about that too.
If a buyer returns part of an order, eBay recalculates the discount based on how many eligible items the customer keeps. For example, if someone originally qualified for a three-item discount but returns one product, the remaining two items are repriced using the two-item discount tier. If the remaining purchase no longer qualifies for any bundle discount, those items return to full price for purposes of calculating the refund.
eBay handles that recalculation automatically, so sellers do not have to break out a calculator every time part of a bundle comes back.
Why This Could Be Useful Heading Into the Holidays
Bundle discounts are not revolutionary, but they arrive at a useful time.
Holiday shoppers are already looking for deals, and many are buying multiple gifts at once. Giving someone an incentive to grab another item from the same seller could help increase average order value without requiring the seller to discount every product individually.
There can also be fulfillment advantages when multiple products leave the warehouse as part of the same order. Depending on the products and shipping setup, consolidating purchases may be more efficient than processing several separate orders.
But more items per order also makes inventory accuracy even more important. A promotion designed to sell three products instead of one is only helpful if all three are actually sitting on the shelf when it is time to ship them.
More Sales Per Order Still Mean More Inventory Moving
For multichannel sellers, an eBay promotion does not happen in a vacuum. The same products may also be listed on Shopify, Amazon, Walmart, or another marketplace, and a successful bundle promotion can move inventory faster than usual.
That makes visibility across channels particularly important. If an eBay shopper buys three units at once, those units need to stop looking available everywhere else before another customer tries to buy them.

FAQs About eBay Bundle Discounts
What are eBay bundle discounts?
Bundle discounts let sellers offer shoppers a percentage discount for purchasing multiple eligible items in one order. Sellers can create different discount tiers based on the number of items purchased.
Can buyers mix and match items?
Yes. Sellers can offer bundle discounts on multiple quantities of the same item or allow shoppers to mix and match different eligible listings. Sellers choose which listings are included.
Do eBay sellers have to use bundle discounts?
No. Bundle discounts are opt-in and are not turned on automatically. Sellers can adjust or turn off their bundle discounts at any time.
Can bundle discounts be combined with other eBay promotions?
They can be combined with eBay sitewide promotions and sale events. They cannot be stacked with seller coupons, seller order discounts, volume pricing, or other seller promotional codes. When multiple seller discounts could apply, eBay uses the eligible offer that provides the better deal to the buyer.
What happens if a buyer returns part of a bundle?
eBay recalculates the purchase based on the number of eligible items the buyer keeps. The remaining items receive the discount tier they still qualify for, and eBay automatically calculates the appropriate refund.
One More Item Can Add Up
eBay’s new bundle discounts give sellers another way to encourage bigger orders without lowering the listed price of every product. Heading into the holidays, that could make the feature worth testing, especially for merchants with products shoppers naturally purchase together.
Just remember that selling more items at once also means inventory can disappear faster. If eBay is one of several places you sell, keeping those orders and stock levels coordinated becomes even more important.
