The CCSMP is requesting fuel certificates and analyses from the Varreux terminal
Regarding the sale of suspect fuel that allegedly fails to meet standards (https://www.haitilibre.com/en/news-48457-haiti-news-zapping.html), the Petroleum Market Monitoring Advisory Council (CCSMP) sent a letter dated September 17, 2026, to James Monazard, Minister of Commerce and Industry. In it, the CCSMP requests the submission of quality control certificates and analysis reports for samples of the gasoline stored at the Varreux oil terminal.
“Dear Mr. Minister,
Following concerns raised by many of our fellow citizens regarding the quality of gasoline sold at certain service stations across the country, the Petroleum Market Monitoring Advisory Council (CCSMP) is addressing you in the exercise of its mandate—conferred by Article 8.2 of the Decree of March 26, 2026—to monitor and protect consumer interests concerning the quality of petroleum products marketed domestically.
To this end, and in order to ensure full transparency and assess the compliance of the fuel being distributed, the Council requests that your Ministry formally provide the quality control certificates based on samples taken from petroleum product shipments received between August 1st and September 15, 2026.
Furthermore, the CCSMP would appreciate it if you could assign MCI inspectors to collect samples from the gasoline storage tanks at the Varreux terminal. These samples would be used to conduct independent verification analyses to determine the actual compliance of the products against the certificates of analysis originally submitted by the importers. Finally, it remains crucial for the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) to ensure that these tests are carried out regularly and consistently on all imported shipments, thereby preventing the sale of adulterated or substandard fuels capable of causing serious damage to vehicle engines.”
