Commercer Corner: Big Spending and Small Business Wins

Shoppers are spending billions before Black Friday, small businesses are making a trillion-dollar impact, and Etsy and eBay are switching things up for sellers. Plus, we’ve got fresh Ordoro features, an important EU shipping update, and a little customer love to share!

🌱 Small Businesses Are Making a Trillion-Dollar Impact

Think small businesses can’t make a big splash? Shopify’s latest report says otherwise. Its merchant ecosystem generated over $1.2 trillion in economic activity and supported 9.6 million jobs worldwide. Turns out those little online shops are a pretty big deal.

🛍️ Shoppers Spent Nearly $10 Billion Before Black Friday

Remember when holiday shopping started in November? Apparently, shoppers missed that memo. Americans spent $9.86 billion online during a two-day October shopping event, and that wasn’t just on Amazon. With the holiday rush already heating up, here’s what the early spending surge could mean for smaller retailers.

🧡 Etsy Wants Cheaper Shipping Without Cutting Seller Earnings

A customer loves your product, adds it to their cart, and then sees the shipping cost. We’ve all been there. Etsy is testing a new approach that caps shipping charges on certain orders while covering the difference itself. Lower costs for shoppers without a smaller shipping payout for sellers? That’s worth a closer look.

📦 eBay Shipping Rates Just Got a Little More ZIP-Specific

Two packages. Same weight. Same shipping zone. Different prices? That’s now possible under eBay’s updated USPS Ground Advantage pricing. New geographic rate groups took effect October 18, and while this isn’t a blanket price increase, some sellers may notice changes when printing labels.

🛠️ Ordoro’s Latest Updates Have a Few New Tricks

Ever wish you could organize custom products more clearly or get a better picture of what’s happening in each warehouse? Our latest updates bring Line Labels, warehouse-specific inventory analytics, and a few other handy improvements to help your team stay organized and keep things moving. Sometimes it’s the little upgrades that make the biggest difference.

    Industry Update

New EU customs requirements take effect November 1, 2026, meaning some packages shipped to the EU will need additional product information. Missing details could cause delays, and nobody wants their packages taking an unexpected vacation at the border!

The good news? Ordoro has you covered. We’ve added support for these identifiers when shipping with UPS, FedEx, and DHL eCommerce, so you can get the details in order without adding more work to your plate.

    With this update, you can:

    • Save product identifiers directly in Ordoro: Keep the additional product information needed for EU shipments organized in one place.
    • Automatically populate saved identifiers: Cut down on repetitive data entry when preparing customs information.
    • Include the right details with your shipments: Send additional product information with supported UPS, FedEx, and DHL eCommerce services.

November 1 is coming up fast. Now’s a great time to double-check your product information and make sure you’re ready.

    CUSTOMER SHOUTOUT ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We love a five-star review, especially when it’s about the people behind the software. This recent Google review reminded us why having a supportive team matters just as much as having the right tools:

“Ordoro has done exactly that, with touchpoints throughout the whole process and assistance with account setup, they are not just a software provider, but a team that wants you to succeed.”

Good software makes running a business easier. Having a team that’s genuinely rooting for you? That’s the cherry on top. Thanks for the kind words!

That’s a wrap for this edition of Commerce Corner! May your holiday sales keep climbing, your shipping costs stay predictable, and your small business make a bigger impact than ever.

And if you’re shipping to the EU, consider this your friendly reminder to get those product details in order before November 1!
