Warrington Wolves reached the Super League rugby league final after defeating Leeds Rhinos 14:12 in the semi-final at Headingley Stadium. It will be Warrington’s first final since 2018. The team has never won the Grand Final.
Decisive penalty in the 68th minute
As Sky Sports News reports, the key incident occurred in the 68th minute. James McDonnell was penalised for obstructing George Williams. The report notes that Williams may have crossed the Leeds player’s path himself, but Leeds used a Captain’s Challenge and the refereeing decision stood.
Evan Irvin converted the penalty and earned Warrington the two decisive points. After the match clock had expired, Jake Connor had a chance to level the score: he took a penalty from 62 metres, but the kick lacked power.

Wigan Warriors and Wakefield Trinity will play in the second semi-final on 26 September. The winner of that match will face Warrington in the Super League final, scheduled for 3 October at Old Trafford. Leeds last won the Super League Grand Final in 2017.
