ShipStation Connects to Lightspeed Retail (X-Series)

You run your store on Lightspeed Retail. It’s where every sale lands — walk-ins, online orders, everything. But when one of those orders needs to ship, Lightspeed hands you nothing to work with. No rates, no labels, no way to get the package out the door from inside the tool you already use all day. So someone grabs the order, prints it, and heads to the post office. Or opens a separate carrier site and starts from scratch.

That trip to the post office is exactly what disappears with ShipStation’s new integration with Lightspeed Retail (X-Series).

Never miss a sale when the item is on the shelf

Lightspeed Retail (X-Series) is built to run a store: sales, inventory, and customers, all in one place. Some sales don’t end at the counter, though. The customer has paid, but the product isn’t ready to go home with them yet. That’s where shipping comes in.

Here are a few everyday examples:

    • The size is out of stock. A customer loves a jacket, but you’re out of their size. Instead of asking them to come back, you ring up the sale in Lightspeed and ship the jacket to them when your next delivery comes in.
    • The item is made to order. A customer orders a custom sofa, lamp, or dining set that won’t be ready for weeks. You don’t need to schedule a pickup. You ship it to their door as soon as it’s ready.
    • The customer is from out of town. A visitor finds the perfect piece but doesn’t want to carry it home. You take the sale and send it after them.

Each of these turns a possible lost sale or return trip into a completed one. They also create shipments, and handling those by hand (printing the sale, comparing carrier sites, heading to the post office) takes time away from the floor.

As more of your sales end in a delivery, shipping from the store becomes part of how you do business. That’s when it makes sense to connect Lightspeed to a dedicated shipping partner.

Introducing the ShipStation + Lightspeed Retail integration

ShipStation now connects directly to your Lightspeed Retail (X-Series) store, providing a seamless solution. Once the two are connected, every sale still starts in Lightspeed. ShipStation picks up only the ones that need to ship: fully paid sales marked Delivery with a ship-to address. Walk-out-the-door sales are completed at the counter as usual, and delivery orders show up in ShipStation, ready for a label. Every order that comes in brings its details: customer email and phone, payment method, discounts applied, item weight and order weight, item images, item options like size or color, and warehouse location. Nothing has to be re-typed or looked up separately.

As orders move through fulfillment, ShipStation keeps the picture current — matching Lightspeed’s Pending, Closed, and Voided states to Awaiting Shipment, Shipped, and Cancelled in your ShipStation queue.

What ShipStation’s integration with Lightspeed Retail (X-Series) means for your business

You get the post office run off your calendar. Delivery orders route straight into ShipStation with rates and ready for a label — no more pulling someone off the floor to drive packages out or manually price postage on a carrier site.

You cut the room for error. Address, weight, and item details move over automatically instead of being re-keyed from scratch, so there’s no transcription mistake waiting to turn into a shipping problem — and no customer call to fix it after the fact.

Ship from your store, without the extra steps. Lightspeed Retail already lets you take fulfillment orders. ShipStation makes shipping them faster. Compare carrier rates, print labels, and send tracking to your customers without re-entering order details or leaving your workflow.

You scale delivery orders without scaling headcount. As your delivery and ship-to-home volume grows, the workflow doesn’t get any heavier. The integration handles the sorting and the data transfer at any volume, so growth doesn’t mean hiring just to keep packages moving.

A unified view of all shipping needs. Because ShipStation only imports paid, delivery-type orders, your shipping queue never gets cluttered with sales that were never leaving the store in the first place. What you see is what actually needs a label.

What this integration looks like in practice

Picture a Saturday at a boutique running Lightspeed Retail. The register is busy with walk-in sales, and a few customers want their purchases delivered: one is waiting on a size that arrives Tuesday, one ordered a custom piece, and one bought online from out of town. Each of those sales is rung up in Lightspeed and marked for delivery, like any other sale.: With ShipStation connected, those delivery orders show up in ShipStation’s Awaiting Shipment queue on their own, already carrying the customer’s info, the item weight, the size or color options, and a warehouse location if the store tracks stock by area. The walk-in sales are completed at the counter as usual. By closing time, whoever handles shipping has everything they need to compare rates, print labels, and send the packages out, with no re-typing and no trip to the post office.

Once a label is printed, ShipStation adds the tracking number and carrier to the sale note in Lightspeed. That way, anyone on the team can look up the sale and see where the package is, right from the system they use every day.

Lightspeed + ShipStation, one smooth workflow

Running a store means doing a lot in one day. Lightspeed Retail is at the center of it: it handles your sales, inventory, and customer relationships so everything runs smoothly on the floor. ShipStation adds what it knows best, which is shipping. Once they’re connected, delivery orders arrive in your ShipStation queue complete and ready for a label, and tracking comes back to the sale in Lightspeed. Each platform does its job, and together they let you sell in store and deliver anywhere.

Try ShipStation for free, and connect your Lightspeed Retail store in minutes.
