Inflation in Pakistan rose by a further 1.27 percent over the past month, according to the latest data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
The data shows that prices increased more rapidly in urban areas, where inflation rose by 1.31 percent during the month. In rural areas, prices increased by 1.23 percent.
Inflation stood at 10.20 percent during July-September, according to the report. Consumer prices in September 2026 were 10.26 percent higher than a year earlier.
Among food items, onion prices rose by 29.17 percent over the month, while wheat became 3.86 percent more expensive. Flour prices increased by 2.28 percent, lentils by 1.56 percent, and dried fruits by 1.27 percent.
Energy and other essential costs also increased. Electricity prices rose by 15.28 percent, motor fuel by 10.76 percent, and medicines by 0.98 percent.
Some food items, however, became cheaper. Tomato prices fell by 24.68 percent, while chicken prices declined by 8.14 percent. Egg prices dropped by 5.92 percent, potatoes by 4.19 percent, and yellow split lentils by 2.09 percent.
The latest figures highlight continued pressure on household budgets as prices of several essential goods and services remain elevated.
